Our baseball season is over. It was a great run! Second in the division for the regular season and out in 3rd in the playoffs. Not bad!
The boys have improved SO much this year - all of them! And for this game in particular - as Coach David said to the boys - they scored 10 runs against the #1 team!! We had a few defensive errors this time around, but all in all they played a terrific game with nothing to be sad about. On a funny note - it was joked about that the green beans Schuyler eats are magic, so I did a gallon ziploc of green beans and carrots for the boys in the dugout. They loved it! They were gone by the bottom of the 4th, and even boys who don't like veggies had some.
Master Schuyler:
Inning 1 no bat, no field (we were not home team because we played the #1 team - in playoffs the better you are going in means you are the home team). Score 5-1 Indians
Inning 2 - no bat, left field with no action, score 6-3 Indians
Inning 3 - Up to bat with a 2-3 count strike out. He wasn't too upset by this this time - I think he finally understands the Ump has a different perspective (and from where I was those strikes were at his ankles...). Played Right field and got a grounder back to pitcher fast. Score 8-3 Indians
Inning 4 - no bat. Right field again with another ball in quickly. Score 12-5 Indians
Inning 5 - SMASHED THE BALL ON THE FIRST PITCH! Got to first, walked to 2nd and 3rd and batted home!! Played 3rd base with a great ball retrieval and always ready for the catcher to throw the ball to him to keep his guy on base. Score 17-10 Indians
Inning 6 - no bat and Indians didn't take last ups. 17-10
This really has been a terrific season. Schuyler has come so far not just in baseball but in his socializing skills as well. It's so nice to see him playing with kids his age. He is very sad the season is over. What was amazing though is last night after the game our team ran around like crazy (helped that one of the moms brought a can of silly string for each boy to spray coaches with!). You would have thought they had won the game - they were just happy to play and be kids. It was really nice to see since most of them are hypersensitive like Schuyler is.
Lots of parents have been asking about Sean's pictures during the game so now he'll need to finish processing all of them and get them onto CD's. Maybe that will be good advertising and he can get a photo shoot?? :)
Emma will miss her "gang" of friends, but fortunately most of these boys will play next year. Sadly they will probably all be on different teams and with a different coach because they do a draft. And several will probably move up to the next division. Schuyler is likely one of them - they kept him back a division this year because it was his first year, but age wise he should have been a division up. He's probably ready for that now (especially now that he knows he can smash the ball!!). But maybe Emma will be on a team next year! She was sad she couldn't play on Schuyler team (height difference much??). But then again, there are no pink dresses in PONY baseball...
Moms are sad - it was nice time to talk to adults and make those connections. I wasn't able to meet new people after we moved because I started school instantly and Sean was in Korea, so it was just as good socially for me as it was for my kids! The school Schuyler is in I haven't liked from the get-go and the parents leave much to be desired. What is great about PONY is that it is two towns/cities which have 2/3 school districts and lots and lots of schools, so we weren't limited to just our school. Lots of people to meet! And, furthermore what is kind of funny is one of the moms reminds me so much of my dear friend Traci, it's scary! Even Sean mentioned that, and he isn't always the most observant. Plus our boys get along great :)
So, here's to a great season! We'll come back next year with Schuyler's power swing and the green beans!!
