We have been reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books at bedtime, and Emma is loving them. She aspires to be like Laura. Grandma just sent her a new nightgown and she is thrilled that it is like one that Laura wore in one of the pictures from the books.
Tonight we read the part where the Ingalls meet Mr. Edwards and he has been teaching Laura to spit. Well, now Emma has decided that she, too, wants to spit really far like Mr. Edwards.
The hope with these books was that they would learn the 'children should be seen and not heard' principle, or about proper manners, and minding your parents. But, no. They are learning to spit. Emma would not go to sleep tonight unless I promised to show her how to spit tomorrow. At least they are hearing about how it was in the 1800's when there were no cars and computers. It is total fiction to them right now though. Well, except for spitting.
