Game 7: Reds vs. Cubs 7-2 REDS

Go Reds again! 7-2 against the cubs. This was one of their better games. The boys were really on with their defense today. Batting not as good as usual, but still good. Excellent pitching and catching. Field work was phenomenal.

Mr. Schuyler, in particular, had a terrific game.

First time up to bat was a walk off of a 3-1 count, then stole second, ran to third and home off of a tremendous hit. Second time up was a strike out, but he had fun with it and teased the pitcher by fake bunting. If only the world could have seen the look on his face while he did it - you could tell he really enjoys that psych out. :)

He started at second in field for an uneventful (great pitching with strike outs) inning. Second inning right field where he played hot potato with the ball (it rolled to him and he threw underhand to the nearest player as if he couldn't remember what to do with it). Third inning back at second base for TWO AMAZING PLAYS! He had 2 grounders come to him and and both times he got it to first base for 2 outs! Fourth inning he was in left field, uneventful again. Fifth inning he played third. He's not a third baseman :) No big deal, really, but he is better elsewhere. There was a play that he missed the catch when he could have gotten a stealer out, but he's always ready and always backs up the pitcher from 2nd or 3rd in the case of an overthrow. Sixth inning he sat out (there are always some that sit out each inning, but it can never be the same people).

Overall TERRIFIC game played! They were calling for rain so no camera. We only felt a few sprinkles, and my butt didn't even freeze to the bleachers this time!

Of note - he is actually ready now and swings, so this is a HUGE improvement. He is really coming alive in this game now and it's so nice to see. The camaraderie with the other players is coming along nicely, too. We have a team full of 'sensitive' boys (okay, there is usually SOMEONE crying in the dugout...) who are all very hard on themselves for the slightest little mistake. They get along great though and I will be sad when the season ends!
